“The election is just around the corner. Now is the time to mobilise all party members and strive to win the people's hearts,” he said when addressing the audience at Umno’s 66th anniversary celebrations at the Bukit Jalil stadium here tonight.
He called on party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak to sound the election war drums, as “we are ready to make our move. We have pledged our loyalty. We will march to the battle ground.”
Muhyiddin described the upcoming 13th General Election as the “mother” of all elections, saying that it would determine Umno's relevance.
“Remember, not only political power is at stake here but the fate of a race.
“We cannot let our enemies spread misleading ideologies that can destroy the harmony we have built all this while,” Muhyiddin, who is also the deputy prime minister, said.
He said although the party's approach has evolved over time in line with the changing political landscape, its values and goals remained the same.
“We (UMNO) have proven our ability to change with time, without sacrificing the foundation and the party's political struggle.
“For 66 years, we had never compromised what we fought for.”
He also said that Umno was "lucky" to be helmed by Najib.
“Under his leadership, let us all work together to ensure Umno's relevance in today's world and in people's hearts.
“Let's all strive to make Umno and its component parties win a huge mandate in this upcoming election,” said Muhyiddin.
He added that it was crucial for UMNO to remain the society's pillar.
“We have always been the people's champion. Should we let our enemies attack us, all the harmony and unity we have built over the years will crumble,” said Muhyiddin.
